Ebook About After a close friend died of cancer, middle-aged, overweight, acrophobic newspaperman Tom Ryan decided to pay tribute to her in a most unorthodox manner. Ryan and his friend, miniature schnauzer Atticus M. Finch, would attempt to climb all forty-eight of New Hampshire’s four-thousand-foot peaks twice in one winter while raising money for charity. It was an adventure of a lifetime, leading them across hundreds of miles and deep into an enchanting but dangerous winter wonderland. At the heart of the amazing journey was the extraordinary relationship they shared, one that blurred the line between man and dog.Following Atticus is an unforgettable true saga of adventure, friendship, and the unlikeliest of family, as one remarkable animal opens the eyes and heart of a tough-as-nails newspaperman to the world’s beauty and its possibilities.Book Following Atticus: Forty-Eight High Peaks, One Little Dog, and an Extraordinary Friendship Review :
I just finished reading Following Atticus and can honestly say I have not read a book in quite some time if ever that has left such an incredible impression on me. I must confess that I am an animal lover and yes have had the pleasure of owning several terrific dogs including a mini schnauzer who recently passed away. This book is about the life of an ordinary man with an extraordinary soul. His thorn filled upbringing presents the naked truths about families, tragedy and relationships. I applaud Tom for his candor and transparent accountings over and over in the book. Tom's tenacious, nurturing, intuitive and organic approach to allowing his treasured companions to discover and become their best self is humbling and inspiring. This book is a refreshing must read. Most of my reading consists of business management and business development books. After never having a dog growing up, my wife thought it would be a good idea to gently convince me to consider adding a puppy to our family 16 years ago. After finishing our Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve in 2013, we met with two dogs in the play area of the local pet store. I was not convinced that it was a good idea to bring home either of these dogs. As we started to leave there was a little dog - a Shih Tzu - that got our attention even without barking like many of the other dogs. After he was brought out and crawled up in my neck and feel asleep, I knew it was time to take our dog home. He was later named Furby by our daughters. Furby is 16 now and his health is failing badly but like Atticus he is a trooper. He has brought me and my family so much joy. I really can't imagine our life without this little guy. He has that rare combination of being friendly, lovable and caring all at the same time. He is my buddy.I was able to relate so well to "Following Atticus" and can well understand how a little dog can make such an incredible difference in your life. Also can relate to the feeling of being in the White Mountains as we vacation often near Loon Mountain.Thank you, Tom, for writing this incredible book.
